Although there are standard known methods such as the Global Initiative for chronic Lung Disease to control and treat COPD, there is ample evidence that in a significant percentage of patients, treatment measures have not been successful in achieving true control of the disease. Therefore, due to the lack of sufficient information in this field in the present study, we decided to investigate the value of lactate clearance in hospitalized patients with exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Materials and Methods: After the patient referred to the emergency department with symptoms of COPD exacerbation, the patient was evaluated by a researcher together with an emergency medicine specialist. After starting the appropriate treatment, the first arterial blood gas analysis was performed. All patients were treated according to GOLD guidelines. Depending on the condition of the patients, other necessary treatments such as antibiotics and invasive or non-invasive mechanical ventilation were performed. Six hours after the visit to the emergency room, arterial blood gas analysis was performed again. The primary care physician, who is blind to the patient's lactate level, was asked to make a decision about whether to discharge or admit the patient. Results: In this study, in which 500 people were included, the mean age of patients was 72.10 ± 6.88 years, the mean age was 72 years and in the range of 25% to 75% of the population the age was between 60 to 78 years. In this study, 54% of the subjects were male and the rest were female. The mean lactate was 17.31±6.11.en_US
