The objective of the present study was to examine the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α and γ (PPAR-α PPAR-γ), uncoupling proteins 1and 2 (UCP1 and UCP2) genes in SCF patients. Methods: In this case-control study 35 patients with SCF and 35 subjects with the normal coronary flow (NCF) were investigated based on coronary angiography examination. SCF diagnosis was performed according to the thrombolysis in myocardial infarction frame count (TIMI). The TIMI> 27 is considered as the SCF phenomenon. The mRNA expression levels of PPAR-α, PPAR-γ, UCP1, and UCP2 genes in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were assessed. Results: There was a significant increase in the expression levels of UCP1 and UCP2 (P =0.034, P<0.001 respectively) in the SCF group compared to the NCF group. A significant decrease in the PPAR-α and PPAR-γ levels (P= 0.015, P<0.001, respectively) in the SCF group relative to the NCF group was observed. The logistic regression analysis revealed that low PPAR-α and PPAR-γ levels, high UCP1 and UCP2 levels are inde¬pendent predictors of the SCF phenomenon.en_US
