Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and usually progressive inflammatory disease of the central nervous system. Insulin resistance and obesity are two important physiological mechanisms, but so far no study has been performed that shows the association between obesity and insulin resistance with the number of relapses in MS patients in Iran. Patients and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 74 MS patients with RRMS diagnosis were invited to participate. After obtaining informed consent and recording information such as time of diagnosis, height and weight, 5 cc of fasting blood samples were taken from patients and blood sugar and insulin levels were measured. Based on HOMA, patients were divided into two groups with insulin resistance and without insulin resistance. Results: The results of comparing the studied markers between the two study groups showed a significant difference between the two groups in terms of cholesterol, leptin levels and total antioxidant capacity. While HDL and TG levels were not significantly different. The number of relapses was 0.42 ± 0.51 in the group with insulin resistance and 0.69 ± 0.70 in the group without insulin resistance, but no significant difference was observed between the two groups. The prevalence of insulin resistance in MS patients in the study sample was 37.8%.en_US
