Thyroid nodule is one of the common clinical problems in progressing societies. While, the vast majority of thyroid nodules are benign, the risk of malignancy is estimated as 5-10 percent. Inconsistency between sonography and fine needle aspiration (FNA) findings is one of important problems in management of thyroid nodule diagnosis and treatment and in this case, postoperative pathology will confirm the accuracy of each preoperative findings as definitive assay. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the consistency of sonography, FNA and histopathology findings in thyroid nodules. Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study 93 patients candidate for thyroid surgery were included in the study and after recording during 12 month and collecting their information, sonography and FNA results were interpreted and consistency between this methods were evaluated. Rate of correlation of the methods was evaluated via cramer’v and the relationship between variables were determined by Fisher’s Exact test. Results: In patients that their sonography results were low suspicious, it was observed significance correlation between FNA and pathology results (Cramer’s v= 0.574, P= 0.037). However, relationship between FNA and pathology was not accessible between patients that their sonography results were intermediate suspicious or high suspicious likely due to insufficient number of samples (N/A).en_US
