A 15-year study of hydatid cyst in children admitted to Tabriz Pediatric Medical Center
Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the cases of hydatid cysts in children admitted to Tabriz Pediatric Medical Center for 15 years.
Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, all children diagnosed with hydatid cyst who were referred to pediatric clinics in Tabriz during the last 15 years from 2003 to 2016 were studied. 120 patients were included in the study. Hydatid cysts in the lung were divided into right lung cysts, left lung cysts and bilateral cysts. In this study, the characteristics of hepatic hydatid cysts were examined and divided into left lobe cysts, right lobe cysts and bilateral cysts.
Results: The mean age of the patients was 8.79±3.75 years and 59.2% of them were male. 52 patients (43.3%) lived in cities and 68 patients (56.7%) lived in villages. 77 patients (64.2%) had a positive relationship with livestock. The mean size of liver cyst in the studied patients was 55.45±24.19 mm with a range between 20 to 120 mm and the average size of lung cyst in the studied patients was 45.47±24.57 mm with a range between 15 to 130 mm.
