Internal and external strategic analysis (SWOT analysis) of Tabriz Dental School

Abstract

Background: The environment around organizations is a dynamic environment that requires proper knowledge of external and internal factors of the organization. Hospitals, as the largest provider of health services, have a vital and important role in society, and its management is associated with many challenges. The challenges of hospital management require managers to have a strategic analysis of its internal and external environment.

Objective: The aim of this study was strategic analysis of internal and external factors (SWOT analysis) of Tabriz Dental Hospital in 2021..

Materials and Methods: The present study is a qualitative study that was conducted in 2021 in the hospital of the Faculty of Dentistry of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. The study population was faculty members, students, experts and patients. Faculty members and experts were selected by census method and patients and students were selected by simple random sampling method and entered the study. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed by SWOT method.

Results: The main strength of Tabriz Dental School Hospital was "the first hospital center providing all dental services under anesthesia". Then there was "proper architecture in accordance with the standards" and "use of modern facilities and equipment and suitable for a separate and equipped operating room." Weaknesses are mainly related to patient satisfaction, and uncertainty and irregularity and lack of correct and complete information and in fact is a defect in the ancillary services of the hospital. The external evaluation of the organization also showed that the opportunities facing the hospital of Tabriz Dental School are more prominent than the threats. Respondents believed that "the scientific and practical trust of the people in this government and university complex", "the only specialized dental hospital in the northwest of the country" and "increasing the need for dental services in the country and the high density of oral patients Anesthesia are the most important and important opportunities for Tabriz Dental School. Conclusion: In the present study, it was found that the position of the dental school is relatively suitable in terms of internal environment And can cover weaknesses by relying on strengths. For this, a competitive strategy must be used on the other hand, the assessment showed that the effect of threats could not be mitigated by using opportunities..
