Survey of drug discovery and development in iran and world

Abstract

Introduction: Drug discovery and development has long history which may perhaps be related to primitive civilization of human. It is said that at the beginning the religious leaders and activists treated people using therapeutic materials existed at that periods. In some historical writings familiarity with drug effects is seen. They fed animals with what they believed had therapeutic effect and see their effects it they were effective. Objective: At present a sort of theoretical research with studying and collection of findings in discovery and development of drugs in Iran and world it has been tried to clear the state in this regards to the new and young researchers in continuation of the subject with them. We believe this sort of research can have due effect on further drug development and discovery. Methods and Materials: In this study research books Journals and other sort of writting in drug development and discovery have been studied classified and discussed with the aim of bringing a new vision in this respect We hope that this study etcites other young researchers to continue their works in this respect. Conclusion: Our study showed that drug development and discovery may have been started from 1800 AD. Important civilizations as China, Egypt, India, Greece, Iran and some Arabian countries have played their roles on this respect. Iran in itself had crucial effect, although the effect of Iran and other countries have changed within the history.
