Since acromegaly is a metabolic disorder, and the results of bone densitometry studies in patients with acromegaly have not been fully characterized and no definitive results have been reported, we decided to study To compare the bone density of patients with acromegaly with normal subjects. Materials and methods: The present study was a case-control study in which all patients with acromegaly referred to endocrine clinic of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences were enrolled. The control group was also extracted from the previous study and matched for age, sex and body mass index (BMI). The selected patients underwent DEXA bone densitometry and all patients underwent XRay photo-asymptomatic fracture examination. After analyzing the graphs and the results of densitometry performed on the patients, all available data were entered into SPSS v22 statistical analysis program and finally we analyzed the data. Results: In this study, 29 patients with acromegaly were evaluated, 65.5% of whom were female. There was no significant difference in mean T-score of hip bone in the acromegaly and control groups, but the T-score in the lumbar bone of patients with acromegaly was significantly lower than in the healthy group. It was also observed that in the acromegaly group 41.4% had osteopenia and 10.3% osteoporosis and the control group had 24.1% osteopenia and 3.4% osteoporosis but no significant difference was observed between the two groups.en_US
