Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a common cause of mortality and morbidity all over the world. Currently coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery is an important treatment method in patients with CAD. Supraventricular arrhythmias are among the important complications after surgery that increase mortality and prolong hospitalization in patients. The aim of present study was to evaluate the effect of atrial artery occlusion on the frequency of supraventricular arrhythmias in patients undergoing CABG. Materials and methods: In a descriptive-analytical study, 100 patients who underwent CABG surgery at Shahid Madani Educational-Medical Center of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences during 1397 and 1398 were included in the study. None of the patients had a previous history of atrial fibrillation (AF). In group A, 50 patients with left atrial (LA) artery branch occlusion and in group B, 50 patients without LA branch occlusion were selected. All patients were evaluated during hospitalization and the study checklist including demographic information, echocardiographic information as well as the incidence of AF and the duration of hospitalization were recorded. Results: The mean age of patients in group A was 63.92±6.04 years and in group B was 64.48±5.85 years. The two groups of study were not significantly different in terms of demographic variables including age (P=0.639) and gender (P=0.408). After CABG, AF rhythm was observed in 20 patients (40.0%) in group A and in 13 patients (26.0%) in group B (OR=1.897 & One-Tailed P=0.06). The mean length of stay in the intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital in group A was 6.8±4.11 and 14.32±5.87 days respectively, and in group B was 6.04±3.46 and 14.50±6.55 respectively. There was no significant difference in terms of duration of stay in ICU (P=0.958) and duration of hospitalization (P=885) between the two groups.en_US
