dc.description.abstractIntroduction: Hypertension is one of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease and also it is one of the leading causes of death in the world. Aim: Regarding the variety of antihypertensive drugs and the importance of selecting antihypertensive drugs as the most important part of hypertension treatment, this study was conducted to investigate the pattern of consumption of antihypertensive drugs in Shahid Madani Hospital in Tabriz. Materials and methods: During a period of 6 months, this descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on patients referred to Shahid Madani Hospital with hypertension receiving drug therapy. Data needed for the study were collected using records and includes demographic information, medical information, consumable drugs, and patients' compliance with the treatment process. Then, therapeutic regimens were compared with the JNC-8 guideline. Results: In general, 134 patients (52 males and 82 females) were evaluated in this study. the most common associated illnesses included diabetes (35. 28 %), heart failure (12.68%) and IHD (11.49%). losartan, amlodipine and metroral, respectively were the most common prescribed drugs, also the most common used treatment regimen was ACEI + CCB + B blocker, ACEI + B blocker, and ACEI. Conclusion: Based on the findings of the present study, the total of 38.8 % of the regimen used is consistent with the JNC-8 guideline; in patients over 60 years of age without background illness 45.4%, in patients under the age of 60 years without underlying disease, 45.2%, in patients with diabetes 34.2%, in patients with cardiovascular disease 21.8%, in patients with heart failure 29.4% of the regimens used were consistent with guideline. On the other hand, in patients with a history of stroke and in kidney failure patients none of the cases, the treatment regimen has been consistent with the Guidelines.en_US
