Abstract: Introduction: In recent decades, nursing instructors have tended to use simulation rather than traditional methods due to benefits such as increased self-confidence. However, little academic literature is available to verify this claim. So, the purpose of this study is consideration the effect of the simulation teaching method on nursing students' self-confidence related to peripheral venous catheterization in pediatric patients. Methods: In this experimental research, 45 students of semester in the 5 and semester of 6 of nursing school the school of Nursing and Midwifery, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences participate. They were trained in establishing peripheral venous catheterization in pediatric patients through lecture method. Then, students were asked to perform the procedure in the clinical laboratory. Still was assessed with supervisor by the check list of assess skill in peripheral venous catheterization in pediatric. Self –confidence determine with self -reported by c –scale. Then, student randomly divide and assigned to three groups (a control group and two intervention groups). In the intervention groups, establishing peripheral venous catheterization in pediatric was trained through simulation and demonstration methods. Two weeks after training, all students from three groups, took post –test and then, score of skill and self -confidence determined and change between groups compared. Results: Comparing changes in score of skill and self –confidence before and after intervention between three groups, showed a significant increase in score of skill in the simulation group (p=0.00) and demonstration group (p=0.00) and in the score of self confidence in simulation group (0.03). Conclusion: This research approve that simulation increase skill and self –confidence in clinical skills.en_US
