dc.description.abstractAbstract: Background & Objectives: Marital satisfaction is one of the most important indicators of life satisfaction. Some of the researchers conducted on mental health and marital gratification indicate relationship between them. The current study aims to survey marital satisfaction issue among married teachers and nurses of Tabriz. Methods & Materials: This is a comparative –descriptive study that was conducted in 2010 in which 261 cases (132 nurses and 129 teachers) were selected by using multistage –cluster sampling method. Data gathering tool was a 2-part questionnaire including socio-demographic characteristics and Enrich marital satisfaction inventory. Data were analyzed using SPSS15, descriptive statistical method (frequency, mean and SD) and comprehensive statistical methods (a t test for independent groups and Pearson's correlation index). Results: Findings showed that the mean scores for marital satisfaction among nurses and teachers were, respectively, 149.28±19.7 and 149.28±13.56. There was no significant difference between mean score of marital satisfaction of nurses and teachers (p=1.000). There was no significant statistic relationship between gender and marital satisfaction of nurse (p=0.130) and teacher groups (p=0.33). Correlation between overtime rate and the marital satisfaction score of female nurses (p=0.01) and the marital satisfaction score of all of the participated nurses was positive and significant. Discussion and Conclusion: The best way to create peace in the family and promote physical and mental health is to increase the level of marital satisfaction; this provides an excellent tool for resolving social issues resulted from marital and family problems. Planning to increase financial security as well as skills training in order to improve marital satisfaction can prevent problems and so they can be solved easily.en_US
