Abstract: Background & Objectives: Burn pain is probably one of the most severe and prolonged types of pain. It is difficult to treat and manage the pain of patients with burns because of the variety of burn pain. Studies have shown that pain intensity is not a valid indicator to determine the amount of burn pain in burned patients. Therefore, to develop any appropriate treatment regimen it is necessary to consider and pay attention not only to pain intensity but also psycho –affective and behavioral responses of burned patients. This study was done to identify any relationship between pain intensity and psycho –affective and behavioral responses of burned patients. Materials & Methods: A total of 100 patients who were hospitalized at the burn wards of Sina Teaching Hospital were selected as the sample for this study. Self –inventory questionnaire was used to collect data and descriptive –analytical statistics was used to describe and analysis of data. Results: Findings showed that mean of procedural pain was 8.40 and mean of background pain was 5.65. Analysis of data showed that behavioral responses of moving away from painful stimuli. Moaning and crying, grimacing, restlessness, and be silent (p<0.001), and protesting (p=0.001) were associated with procedural pain intensity, and prevention from moving (p=0.04) were associated with pain intensity at rest. The psycho –affective responses of anxiety (p=0.02), tiredness (p=0.04), helplessness (p=0.01), anorexia (p=0.003), acute stress disorder (p=0.006) were associated with pain intensity at rest. Conclusion: According to our study findings, burned patients experience severe procedural pain and moderate background pain; however, the psycho –affective and behavioral responses didn't reflect this fact. So in order to manage and treat burn pain; it's necessary to consider not only to pain intensity but also psycho –affective and behavioral responses in burned patients.en_US
