Abstract Introduction: Pregnancy is the period of stress in the life of every woman that could be associated with mood disorders such as anxiety and depression and short-term and long-term effects on the health of his mother and fetus. This study is performed to determine the influence of the Holy Quran with translation and without it on stress, anxiety and depression in pregnant women. Materials & Methods: This randomized controlled clinical trial with three-armed parallel was performed on 168 pregnant women 15–45 years with gestational age of 25-28 weeks in their first and second pregnancies in elected health care centers of Uremia city. Eligible women were allocated into three groups of 56 (Holly Quran with translation, Holly Quran without translation, and control) using block randomization. Intervention was three weeks. Quran was broadcast in health care center, once a week for the first and second groups. On other days of a week, the participants listened to the CD once a day. Intervention and control groups received routine pregnancy cares once a week. The questionnaires including perceived stress (PSS), Edinburg depression and Steinberger state-trait anxiety inventory were applied at baseline, 1, and 2 months after the intervention. Repeated measure ANOVA was used to analyze data. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between three groups in terms of the baseline scores of stress, anxiety and depression before the intervention (P>0.05). After intervention by repeated measure analysis with adjusting the baseline score, in Holly Quran with translation group, scores of perceived stress (adjusted mean difference: -13.1; confidence interval 95%: -11.1 to -15.1), state anxiety (-18.4; -15.5 to -21.3), trait anxiety (-14.3; -12.2 to -16.4), and depression (-2.2; -1.2 to -3.2) and in Holly Quran without translation group, scores of perceived stress (-12.4; -10.4 to -14.3), state anxiety (-18.8; -15.5 to -21.7), trait anxiety (-13.9; -11.8 to -15.9), and depression (-2.3; -1.3 to -3.3) Conclusion: According to the results of this study, the Holly Quran with translation and without it, both are the effective for reducing stress, anxiety and depression during pregnancy.en_US
