There is no study that investigates the effect of preoperative anemia in patients with artificial valve dysfunction as a separate group. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the prognostic effect of anemia in patients with artificial valve malfunction who undergo reoperation. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective descriptive study in which the files of 150 patients were evaluated after heart valve replacement during 2011-2012 in Shahid Madani Hospital (Tabriz-Iran). Laboratory results such as hemoglobin and its effects on morbidity and mortality of patients were evaluated. Data were recorded in SPSS Ver16 statistical software and compared with Chi-Square, Independent Samples T-Test and Paired Samples T-Test. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The prevalence of hospital mortality for the group with hemoglobin less than 12 was 6.12% and for the group with hemoglobin more than 12 was 0.04% (P=0.002). With hemoglobin less than 12 was 19.41% and for the group with hemoglobin more than 12 was 5.19% (P=0.012).en_US
