dc.description.abstract | Abstract: Background and aim: Spiritual wellbeing is an important dimension of health. Or attention to spirituality and its determinants in nursing, improves health care quality. There is a significant correlation between spiritual wellbeing of nurses and their attitude to spiritual care and spiritual care competence. Intensive care unit is one of the most sensitive parts of the hospital. Due to the complex and critical conditions of patients in intensive care units, spiritual care is important in these sectors. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the impact of spiritual education on spiritual wellbeing, spiritual care attitude and spiritual care competence of nurses in intensive care units.
Method: This study is a quasi-experimental study that is on 64 nurses with simple random sampling. Participants were divided into intervention and control groups. In this study, questionnaire “spiritual wellbeing scale”, “attitude to spirituality and spiritual care scale” and “spiritual care competence scale” was used, after the pretest, the intervention group received educational intervention and after one month of educational intervention, post-test was performed on both groups. Data using SPSS software version 16 and descriptive statistics (frequent, percentage, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (paired –t-test and independent t-test) were analyzed.
Finding: compare of scores in the two groups showed that changes in scores of spiritual wellbeing (mean increase 10/21±8/80), attitude to spiritual care (mean increase 7/85±3/36)and spiritual care competence (mean increase 10/31±6/51) in the intervention group and control group and control group was statistically significant(P<0/05). Amount of increase in scores in the intervention group was than the control group. The control group had minor changes.
Conclusion: the results indicate a positive influence of spirituality education on promoting of spiritual wellbeing, attitude to spiritual care and spiritual care and spiritual care competence in intensive care unit nurses. This can improve the quality of care provided to patients in these sectors and increase their satisfaction. | en_US |
