dc.description.abstract | Abstract: Introduction: Quality is a concept which is concerned as an important issue in health care scope, especially in nursing care, in recent two decades. Considering that, there is never an ultimate level of quality so that, continuous evaluation of quality is necessary and experts believe that the quality of nursing care is related to "How nurses provide caring" and "What are the results of that cares". For this reason, paying attention to nurses' and patients' viewpoint as providers and customers of nursing care is important in assessment of quality. Therefore, this study was carried out to make amends for lack of studies in order to assessment different dimensions of nursing care quality (psychosocial, physical and communication) from nurses' and patients' viewpoint.
Method and Material: This survey is a descriptive comparative study. The data collection instrument was a quality of patient care questionnaire, which included four sections (demographics, psychosocial, physical and communication dimensions) and five point scales, was used to determine the rate of response to each item. Questionnaire was validated by content validity and its reliability was achieved by Alpha -Cronbach (α>0.8 in each dimension). Sample size for nurses consisted of 135 employed nurses in medical –surgical wards in Emam Khomeini, Sina and Shohada hospitals which census was used as sampling method and 130 hospitalized patients were selected in systematic random sampling way. Data analysis was done by using SPSS software.
Results: The finding of this research indicated that most of the nurses considered that the level of nursing care quality in three dimensions (psychosocial, physical and communication), is desirable whereas most of the patients considered it, so undesirable. Also, there is a significant statistical difference among nurses' and patients' viewpoint about quality of nursing care.
Conclusion: According to obtained results based on undesirability nursing care quality from patients' viewpoint and differences among nurses' and patient' viewpoint, it is necessary to perform some endeavors in this field. In order to attaining this purpose, evaluation and revision of quality of nursing care standards in three dimensions (structure, process and outcome), teaching nurses to have a patient center approach to care in nursing practice, improvement the professional status of nursing care, obtaining some policies in order to increasing efficient curative relation among nurses and patients and ultimately attention to psychosocial needs of patients, would be useful. | en_US |
