dc.description.abstractAbstract: Introduction: having a child with intellectual disability, physical problems, psychological, social and family unit imposes a lot of them will suffer from vulnerabilities. One of the approaches the world health organization to empower families and patients. Objective: to determine the effect of family- centered empowerment model of knowledge, attitude, behavior and care providers of children with intellectual disability. Materials and methods: this study is a randomized controlled intervention study which was conducted in nares rehabilitation center of mynah in 2013.46 caregivers with intellectually disabled children aged 6-18 years were randomly divided into two groups of intervention and control. 6 sessions of training classes were held for intervention group, but the control group didn’t receive any intervention. In both groups, at the beginning and end of the study. Data were collected hashed on researcher-made questionnaires of the knowledge, attitude and behavior. Data were analyzed through SPSS21 and by using of paired t-test independent t-test and chi-square. Findings: between knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of caregivers in both groups before the intervention, there was no statistically significant difference. The results showed 1.5 months after the intervention, an increase in knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of caregivers in the intervention group before (80/2± 54/8, 51/6 ±29/62) and 63/5± 64/48) and after intervention (86/1 ± 64/48) and after intervention (86/1 ± 50/14 , 76/3 ± 57/72 and 77/2 ± 46/58) was significant (p< 0.05). in the control group the mean score of knowledge, attitude and behavior of health care providers (7/77± 3/45 , 62/25 ± 7/80 and 43/78 ± and 43/78±6/10) and after intervention (8/12± 3/10, 65/35±4/46 and 43/87±5/43) was not significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: empowerment, especially if a family- centered approach may be, any further enhance the capabilities of the family as an integrated system and need for health interventions by health institutions to reduce.
