dc.description.abstractAbstract: Introduction: Family planning with the aim of prevention of unwanted pregnancies and ideal birth –spacing, can prevent from prejudicial outcomes like: anemia, fatigue> prematurity, low birth weight, induced abortion and also neonatal and infant death. So couples, especially those that have 15 months babies, should use of contraception's. Since, behavioral patterns of contraceptive acceptance and use, doffers between individuals. Therefore the assessment of quality of contraceptive use after child bearing is necessary. Methods: This study is a descriptive study. Data collection tool was questionnaire that completed by investigators by direct interview among 469 female in Tabriz. Results: Between whole and reliable methods following delivery, the most common method use of birth control as first, respectively with 43.7% and 45.2% was, progestin –only pills. The timing use of first contraceptive between whole and reliable methods in most subjects (respectively 61.8% and 63.3%) was, one month and half after delivery. Continuation rate 6 and 12 months of first reliable method was respectively 43.8% and 31.8%. Continuation rate 3 months was 82.9% for progestin only pills. The current use of contraceptive use methods was, respectively: Ocp (30.3%), Condom (20.7%), and IUD (18.1%), with drawal (13%), Periodic (10%), DMPA (2.1%), TPN (1.1%), POP (0.4%) and Norplant (0.2%). There was significant difference between different groups of age with first contraceptive method, gravidity with current method, menstrual condition with kind and timing of first method (reliable and unreliable) and birth spacing with the first reliable method following delivery. There wasn't significant differences in remaining cases. Conclusion: The finding showed that the way of postpartum contraceptive use wasn't desirable and even the rate of unreliable methods increased in subjects who inclined toward the birth spacing more than 3 year or didn't incline to another pregnancy. So it is necessary that the authorities give more attention to, and since most of mothers declared during the prenatal care, labor and postpartum period didn't received adequate information about contraception's and since in attention to education that is the most important determinant factor in contraceptive use, between couples so the emphasis on education and consulting of postpartum contraceptive use is necessary.en_US
