These complications are responsible for the most maternal mortality and morbidity. There are some risk factors susceptible mothers developing HDP, including: age, parity, race… The aim of this study was to identify characteristics of those mothers, hospitalized in Tabriz University of Medical Science, teaching centers. Materials & Methods: An analytic –descriptive study, done in Alzahra and Taleghani teaching centers in 2002. We studied 300 pregnant women in two groups (150 HDP mothers as a case and 150 normotensive mothers in control group). A questionnaire consist of two part: 1) Demographic data 2) medical and obstetrics history was completed by interview and records. Data were than gathered and analyzed using SPSS-9 soft word and x2 test. Results: There were statistically significant difference between maternal age, parity, income, history of HDP in previous pregnancy, chronic hypertension and familial history of HDP. Factors such as: insufficient income, illiteracy, preterm labor and female infant were high in HDP group but there were no significant statistically difference. Conclusion: According to this mothers with HDP group had these characteristics: two extremes of fertility period (<18 years, 35 years), malty parity, history of HDP in previous pregnancy, chronic hypertension, family history of HDP and inadequate income. So we should pay more attention to mothers in high risk group. Effective care and early diagnosis and risk management by midwifes is highly recommended in this regard.en_US
