Nursing Students’ Knowledge and Attitudes regarding to Ischemic Heart Disease Prevention, Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, Tabriz Medical Sciences University, 1993.

Abstract

Abstract: This research is a field study about the way of ischemic heart diseases prevention in Tabriz Medical University aimed to survey the knowledge and attitudes of final semester students of nursing. The questionnaire used for this research consisted of three parts. First part inquired certain personnel characteristics, the second part designed to test the subject's knowledge (hyperlipidemia, cigarette and hypertension), and the third part addressed 20 statements surveying the attitudes of subjects on prevention of ischemic heart diseases. The findings are presented in 22 tables and one line. Further descriptive and deductive statistics were employed. In this study Pearson's correlation coefficient, T test, chi –square and fisher exact test were employed, to estimate correlation between knowledge and attitudes of the subjected. The findings showed that 70% of participants obtained an average knowledge about various field of prevention (average 13.1 out of 21 scores). There was not significant correlation between knowledge of the subjects and the variable of family situations, clinical practice, smoking and history of suffering ischemic heart disease in first family numbers. But there was a significant correlation between knowledge and the variable of age and sex. Lack of significant relation between and attitudes of subjects was very interesting. Also, findings showed that all of the participants (100%) had positive attitude regarding the prevention of ischemic heart diseases. Finally, the report discusses the application of achieved results in different field of nursing and effects some suggestions to future investigations on the topic.
