dc.description.abstractThe aim of this study was frequency study of septic arthritis and overlap with inflammatory arthritis in patients with primary diagnosis of septic arthritis. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study and the target population included all patients diagnosed with septic arthritis, among all patients referred to the infectious and orthopedic department of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences (including Shohada Hospital, Imam Reza and Sina) in the period of October 2015 to October 2017, which was 125 people, entered the study. The dependent variable studied is the compatibility and adequacy of the patient's diagnostic findings with the criteria presented in the valid references. In case of incompatibility of the cases examined with the initial diagnosis of septic arthritis who have received antibiotic treatment with criteria, it was considered as an overdiagnosis of septic arthritis. Gathering information through analysis of patient records and a questionnaire prepared for this purpose. Results: In this study, 35 people (28%) were women and 90 people (72%) were man. Among these patients 40 cases (32%) according to cytology or smear or culture definitely had septic arthritis. That in 15 cases (12%) cytology was compatible with septic arthritis, 3 cases (2.4%) positive smear and 32 cases (25.6%) positive culture. 10 cases (8%) case were included in the probable diagnosis of septic arthritis according to cytology; and for 30 cases (24%) according to sytology, smear and culture diagnose of septic arthritis was roled out; and 45 cases (36%) were unpredictable due to perform in diagnostic tests (cytology, smear and culture). the smear test in 15 cases (12%), the culture in 98 cases (78.4%) and cytology test in 60 cases (48%) was performed. According to the cytology test, the majority of patients in the inflammatory group had with 40 cases (32%). According to smear results, no microorganisms were observed in most patients with 12 cases (9.6%) and then 2 cases Gram-positive cocci ware observed. Also, according to the results of culture, in most patients with 66 cases (52.8%) no microorganisms were isolated and then Staphylococcus aureus was isolated in 17 cases (13.6%). The mean (standard deviation) duration of treatment in the hospital and after discharge was 11.45 (±9.8) and 12.75 (±1.5), respectively.en_US
