| dc.description.abstract | Abstract: This research is a descriptive and analytic study to investigate the ways of applying principles of catheterizing of patients by the nursing staff in various wards of hospitals dependent on Tabriz Medical Science University and includes one goal and three special objectives about the principles of catheterizing before, during and after it. In this research 70 people from nurses and practical nurses of various wards of mentioned hospitals have been chosen on the base of sampling method as purposive sampling. The means for collecting data were questionnaire and checklist (observation sheet). The questionnaire includes two parts of personal specifications and specifications of the researched wards and the checklist includes three parts of principles of catheterizing in the periods before, during and after it. Descriptive and inferential statistics have been to achieve the research objectives and the results have been shown in 67 tables and 13 diagrams. Findings of this research about the ways of applying the principles of catheterizing in the period before catheterizing show that 10% of the nursing staff apply its principles "acceptable", 84.3% "relatively acceptable" and 5.7% "unacceptable". Way of applying the principles during catheterizing, shows that 95.7% of nursing staff apply its principles "acceptable" and 4.3% "unacceptable". Ways of applying the principles after catheterizing, shows that 34.3% of nursing staff apply its principles "acceptable". 42.9% "relatively acceptable" and 22.9% "unacceptable". On the base of findings of this research, the following factors are effective in applying the principles of catheterizing: work record in the last ward, work record in catheterizing, age, marital status, and number of staff, number of patients in the ward, work shift, availability of catheterizing set, and availability of sterile gloves. The nursing staff who have a long work record in the last ward, with record in catheterizing and with older age and married status, apply the principles effectively. Besides, in case of availability of more number of staff in the ward, less number of patients and catheterizing sets and sterile gloves, the principles has been applied effectively. The researcher has recommended for implicating the findings and for further researches on the bases of the results of research.
