The Nurses Medication Error Rate among Nursing Staff in Medical Wards of Teaching Hospital of Tabriz, 1994.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to assess the nurse's medication errors rate in the medical wards in one of Hospital of Tabriz Medical University in 1994. Subjects was 16 nurses that were assessed in three shift (48 shift) and in this time 809 drug administration procedures were observed. Content validity reliability of data gathering instrument was approved by means of a pilot study. The demographic characteristics were gathered by questionnaire and the clinical practice data was checked and gathered through the check list. The data was analyzed with use of descriptive and inferential statistics and the findings were presented in 27 tables. The result of this study indicates that nurse's medication errors rate, according to principles of drug administration was 6 percent. The result of this study showed no significant correlation between the demographic characteristics and medication errors rate and results of this study indicated that number of patients and nurses and shift work was much effective on the nurse's medication errors rate.
