dc.description.abstractAbstract: Introduction: Groups such as the National childbirth Trust, Association of Radical Midwives and the Association for the improvement in Maternity services have encouraged women to mobilize during labor and to assume a comfortable position during contractions. During contraction the effects of mobilization in labor and on an upright position has many advantageous to both mother and fetus. Knowing that in educational and treatment centers of Talegane and Alzahra labor attendant personnel force women to stay in bed, thus the topic became imperative to study. Objective: To study the relationship between maternal upright and recumbent position with out-come of labor. Design: This is a prospective analytical study which data were gathered by interview and observation. Setting: Educational and treatment centers of Taleghane and Alzahra. Participant: 60 low Risk laboring women who were attending two above setting for delivery (30 of the participant the upright group and 30 the recumbent group). Results: The result showed statistically significant correlation between maternal upright Positions with variables such as: progress of labor, level of comfort, length and frequency of contraction in the first four hours, length of active phase of labor, and no correlation was found between maternal positions with variable such as: kind of delivery and Apgar score. Conclusion: On the basis of the hypothesis were approved. Therefore researcher suggested that Midwives need to be aware that the upright position have the distinct advantages of Facilitating efficient uterine contractions and reducing the duration of the active phase of labor, with no increase in the discomfort experienced or adverse effect on new born well -being.en_US
