The aim of this study was investigating circulating levels of GLP-1 in liver cirrhosis and its association with severity of liver disease in the Iranian population. Methods: A total of 39 patients with a confirm diagnosis of liver cirrhosis and 41 healthy controls were investigated in this study. Levels of GLP-1 were determined using ELISA method. The severity of liver cirrhosis was assessed using the Child-Pugh, MELD (i), MELD-Na, and MELD New criteria. Results: The mean age of patients and healthy subjects was 42.51±12.80 and 42.07±10.92 years, respectively. Twenty one persons (18 females) of patients with liver cirrhosis and 22 persons (19 female) of control group were male. The mean MELD (i), MELD-Na, MELD New, and Child-Pugh scores were 14.36±4.26, 15.26±4.81, 14.74±4.66, and 7.28±1.50, respectively. Mean and SD of GLP-1 levels in patients and healthy subjects was 95.26±17.15 and 111.84±38.14 pg/dl, respectively. There was significant difference in GLP-1 levels in two groups (P= 0.017).en_US
