Study Factors Effective in Discontinuing Norplant in Women who attended at the Family Planning Setting of Semnan.

Abstract

Abstract: Introduction: To day long action methods of contraception is needed for some women. Norplant with its high safety and effectiveness is an approved long action method that is used by women. But its side-effect and complications makes some to discontinue before completed time. Objective: To study factors (structural, personal (physical, attitudinal)) effective in discontinuing Norplant. Methods & Materials: This is a descriptive study in which 75 women were participated in this study. Data were gathered by questionnaire that is made of 75 question in 3 parts: 35 parts: 35 questions in demographic characteristics, 3 questions in structural factors, 26 questions in physical factors, 10 statements in attitudinal factors and one more question about the motivation of participate in for taking Norplant. For the purpose of analysis descriptive statistics was used. Result: Based on the result of this study the most time of removal (52%) was 12-23 months after of insertion. The most (74.6%) of removal was related to menstrual problems of physical factors and most (5.4%) was related to not notifying the complication of Norplant by Health person as a structural factor and (78.6%) related to attitudinal factor. And most (34.7%) Motivational factor to choose Norplant was related to its long action and long use. Result were presented in 14 tables. Discussion & Conclusion: In general the results of study should that structural, physical and attitudinal factors can cause discontinunig of Norplant by its user. And long action of this method can be a motivational factor for its use. In the end researcher on the bases results of study suggested some recommendation for: administration, education and clinical practicing.
