Introduction: Denture stomatitis is a chronic inflammation of the mucosa supporting removable prostheses and may be in form of local or general. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of Matrica extract mouthwash with Nystatin mouthwash on erythematous denture stomatitis. Materials and methods: In this clinical trial study with code IRCT20200218046544N2, 22 patients referred to the Oral Diseases Department of Tabriz Dental faculty who had denture stomatitis (a type of erythematosus) and were eligible for inclusion in the study were considered. Patients were randomly divided into Matrica mouthwash and Nystatin mouthwash patients. In both groups, patients mouthwashed 20 drops of the drug (Matrica for 60 seconds and Nystatin for 120 seconds) every 8 hours and after each use of mouthwash, they put their denture in their mouth for 30 minutes. They avoided eating and drinking. The length and width of the erythema (generalized lesions) were measured before the initiation of drug use (day 0) and on days 5, 10, 15, and 20 after the start of drug use by the student using a digital caliper (made in Germany) and the data were recorded in hundredths of a millimeter. Data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 17 software and repeated measures test (repeated measure of ANOVA). In this study, P value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The length and width of erythema in patients in both Nystatin and Matrica treatment groups were significantly reduced during 20 days. No significant difference noted in the length and width of the erythema between the Nystatin and Matrica groups. However, a significant decrease in the length and width of erythema was observed in both groups, 15 days after treatment. Conclusion: Matrica extract mouthwash is effective on denture stomatitis erythematosus.en_US
