Nursing Managers’ Practices based on Managing Processes from View Point of Nursing Management Levels in Health Centers of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences in 1998.

Abstract

Abstracts: Introduction: Management Knowledge is a perceptual arrangement which makes the foundation of manager’s activities. The succeeded practice in one organization related to its managing. So this study has accomplished as for assessment chief nurse executives practices based upon management process in view of nursing management levels in health and educational centers of Mazandaran Medical University in 1998. Methods & Material: This survey in a descriptive study. The data collection tool for this study was a questionnaire consists of two parts for accessing to study objectives. First part includes nine question related to individual characteristics and second part including sixty questions in chief nurse executives practices in management process in five fields that are: planning, organization, staffing, conducting and leading controlling and supervision has been considered. The measurement criteria in questions was Likert scale and the response have been considered in levels of “often”, and “usually”. Validity and Reliability of questionnaire achieved by content validity and spearman- Brown test. Correlation efficiency was ninety one percent (r=0.91). The samples of this study had choice of nursing leaderships in health and educational centers of Mazandaran Medical University. Among the samples ninety four person answered to the questions. The study setting have considered the hospital of Mazandaran Medical University. Results: Present information of this survey summarized in tables 21 achieved by using of descriptive and analytical statistic. Data analyses was accomplished by computer microprocessor package (SPSS). Data results show the most of attendance (Nursing leaderships) in study (ie. 46.8%) are in age group 30-39 years. Seventy -five persons out of 94 (79.58%) were female, sixty-five (71.3%) married and eighty- nine (94.7%) had bachelor degree in nursing. Also results show that a majority of leaders (43.6%) in study had 1-9 years record of service. Fifty persons (53.2%) had management recording work 1-9 years and fifty- three persons (56.4%) were in head nursing office during of study. The majority (56.4%) did not attend in education management classes and the most of subjects (22.3%) had only 10-49 hours education. Regarding to chief nurse executives practices, the results show that the most of subjects (67%, n=63) has known chief nurse executives practices as well in planning, 64(68.1%) in organization, 43(45.7%) in leadership and conducting, 66 (63.8%) in controlling and 49 (52.1%) in management process and there were significant differences between personal characteristics of subjects gender and their opinions regarding to chief nurse executives practices (p=0.03, x^2 =4.61) and there are not significant difference in other manners (p≥0.05). Discussion: Considering the main objective of this survey as “determination of chief nurse executives practices based upon the management process in view of nursing management levels”, the results show that chief nurse executive practices based upon management process were good, but one-third of practice factors in third stage of management process (staffing) including interview with new personnel’s to determine the part of nursing, considering needed time to familiarity and adjustment of personnel, tacking necessary action to meet materials and spiritual needs, educations in low periods of time, facilities for nurses to receive training and for convenience of employees, also some of operational factors in forth stage of management process (conducting & leadership) including using of personnel opinion in decision making, creating environment for initiative and innovation, encourage to accomplish functions and also operational factors in fifth stage of management (controlling) including precision of appropriate instruments to control and comparison of information with predetermined aspects just were occasionally done. Implication: Implication of these results contrivers in different nursing area and suggestions has been provided to performance subsequent studies.
