The Self-care Educational Needs of Patients who have undergone Mitral Value Replacement in Imam Khomeini Hospital, Tehran, 1997.

Abstract

Abstracts: Introduction: This research is a descriptive and analytical study which has been performed to investigate the self-care educational needs of the patients who have undergone Mitral value replacement. This research consists of one goal and four special objective which are about educational needs for mechanical value complications, Drug regimen, Food regimen, Activity and rest. In this research, 100 MVR patients who were hospitalized after surgery in the heart ward, were studied. Sampling method was simple sampling and data were collected through questionnaires. The questionnaire consist of three parts: 1. Demographics Data 2. Affective needs 3. Educational needs In order to achieve the research objectives, descriptive and inferential statistics have been used and results have been presented on 35 tables. The findings of this study in relation with affective needs for self-care showed that 80% of the patients left that they needed education. Their findings in relation with educational needs for self-care showed that 21.25% had high level of educational needs and 46.25% medium level and 33.5% low level educational needs. According to this study, some factors such as sex, marital status, outpatient, educational level duration of hospitalization using of Anticoagulant in the past, place of residence had no effect on the patient’s educational needs. Factors, such as, age, surgical period, hospitalization in the past, education in the past, had significant effects on the educational needs.
