dc.description.abstract | Abstract: Introduction: The profession has long recognized the importance of research as an essential basis for its development. More recently the movement supporting evidence based practice has brought this point in to focus. However, relatively little research has been conducted to identify factors that interfere with the ability of nurses to base their practice on research evidence.
Method: In order to identify research utilization and barriers to it, this descriptive study was conducted upon 304 nurses working teaching hospitals of Tabriz, which were selected by random sampling, Data collection instrument used for study consisted of Funk et al (1991) barriers scale, Parahoo (2000) research utilization questionnaire and NBNI (1990 attitude) measuring questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS (10).
Results: The results of this study show that majority of nurses have an insensible attitude to research and use research “sometimes”. They report reading research “once or twice a year”. Nurses participating this study, point out that nursing texts and educator supervisor were main resources for accessing to research findings. Top three major barriers for research utilization included: “the facilities are inadequate for implementation”, “Physicians will not cooperate with implementation” and “The nurses does out research project or have more positive attitude to research, seemed to perceive fewer barriers than others”. Facilitators which nurses reported, emphasis role of Education and supportive/ evaluation, management.
Discussion and Conclusion: In Comparison with other studies, our research conceptual and Instrumental utilization was lower and perceived barriers very higher, therefore suggest that through modifying nurses attitudes, providing resources for education and Facilitating research utilization in practice, come along with removing barriers and developing appropriate system, result in improvement of nursing practice and quality of care. | en_US |
