Evaluating opinions of recent 10 years pharmacy graduates working in pharmacies in Tehran and Tabriz regarding the efectiveness of Iranian educational system for the purposes of pharmacists career

Abstract

Introduction: Pharmacy is a changing profession. The new role of pharmacists in patient support is known as pharmaceutical care, pharmaceutical care is to take responsibility for medication to achieve definity results that improve the patient's quality of life. In order to prepare and qualify pharmacists for their new tasks, the necessary training and exercises should be included in the pharmacy curriculum. Objective: Evaluating opinions of recent 10 years of pharmacy graduates working in pharmacies in Tehran and Tabriz regarding the effectiveness of the Iranian educational system for the purposes of pharmacist's career. Methods: This study was a descriptive statistical study that the designed questionnaire was delivered in randomly to 150 graduates working in pharmacies in Tehran and Tabriz in 1998 and finally, the results were analyzed with using SPSS 16 software. Results: The results of the study showed that 51 percent of pharmacists cited the option of interest as the reason for choosing the field of pharmacy to study at university. On the other hand, 78 percent of them considered the change in the type and number of units offered in the pharmacy curriculum to be very effective in promoting the scientific and practical role of the pharmacist in the pharmacy. Also, 82 percent of pharmacists know the positive effect of familiarity with the pharmacy environment in the first semesters of the curriculum on students' motivation and better learning. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that pharmacists were not satisfied with the current condition of the pharmacy curriculum and also they believed in changing the curriculum courses in order to increase the quantity and quality of courses related to the scientific and practical role of the pharmacist in the pharmacy to fulfill pharmaceutical care responsibilities in the pharmacy
