dc.description.abstractMultiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and demyelinating inflammatory disease with complex etiology and unknown etiology that affects people of working age. Considering the importance and impact of genetic and ethnic differences in epidemiological results, prevalence, sex ratio and first manifestation of multiple sclerosis in East Azarbaijan and Tabriz population in ten years ending in 2018 were studied. Methods and Materials: The present study was a cross-sectional study. The records of patients with MS diagnosed based on Macdonald diagnostic criteria were studied from 2008 to 2018. Patients' records were reviewed for age, sex, first manifestation of the disease, familial history of MS and their level of education. In case of any defects in the file, the information available in the MS Association of the province was used. The information was analyzed using SPSS version22. Results: A total of 2995 MS patients in East Azarbaijan province and 2042 MS patients in Tabriz were evaluated. The highest number of diagnoses was in year 2014 (12.7%) and the lowest was in year 2008 (7.7%). The mean age of patients was 32.33 ± 8.92. The mean age of men was 32.86 ± 9.00 and the mean age of women was 32.14 ± 8.89. The highest prevalence of the onset age was 18 - 30 years. 25.67% of patients were men and 74.32% of patients were women. Sex ratio was 2.89. The annual incidence was 6.37-8.90 in 100000 population. The prevalence of MS was 82.17 in 100000 population. The number of affected women was higher than men in all years. Blurred vision and sensory disorders were the most common manifestation of the disease. Familial history was seen in 13.9% of patients. The prevalence of ms in Tabriz was 114.10 in 100000 population. 74.63% of patient were women and the rest were men and the sex ratio was 2.94. Blurred vision and sensory disorders were the most common manifestation of the disease in Tabriz population.en_US
