Comparative Evaluation of the Current Process of Preparation of Patients Undergoing Surgery in Comparison with the Clinical Guidelines: A Case Study of Urology Ward of Imam Reza Education and Research Hospital - Tabriz University of Medical Sciences

Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to compare the current process of preparation of surgical candidates in comparison with accepted clinical guidelines. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study sampling was done by judgmental / purposive method among the mentioned population; finally, 134 patients were studied. The data were categorized as 3 x 4 tables. In one side of the table, patients were divided into small, medium and large surgical groups according to the size of the surgical procedure, and in the opposite side of the table, patients were divided into four groups at low, medium, high and very high risk. . As a result, each patient is housed in one of the houses of a 12-hole table. Results of clinical findings and evaluations before surgery was retrospectively extracted and evaluated. Results: The mean age of the patients was 49.68±16.96 years and 74.6% were male. The most common type of surgery was trans-ureteral lithotripsy (TUL). The incidence of hypertension (22.4%) among underlying diseases and comorbidities was the highest recorded item. The procedures were selected relatively in the same population size from three groups: small, medium, and large procedures with frequency of 50 cases (37.3%), 34 cases (25.4%) and 50 cases (37.3%), respectively.
