Introduction: ICD and Pacemaker are one of the most expensive medical devices used in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders, including heart blocks and dangerous ventricular arrhythmias. Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the using pattern of Pacemaker and ICD in patients of Shahid Madani Educational and Medical Center in Tabriz as a diagnostic and therapeutic center for cardiovascular diseases in the northwest of the country. Methods: This study is a retrospective cross-sectional study. Entry criteria include all patients admitted to this center in 2016 and 2017 who received ICD and Pacemaker. To select the cases, patients were first randomly selected using Graphpad Prism website and then their files were collected and analyzed. A form containing patient information including age, sex, medical history, drug history, habitual history, physician and diagnosis was designed to be completed for each patient individually. The prescription consistency was then compared with the valid AHA / ACC guidelines for prescribing PM and ICD. Results: In this study, the records of 120 patient were eligible to enter the study. In 86 cases (71.7%) were rational prescribing and 21 cases (17.5%) were irrational prescriptions. Also, in 13 cases (10.8%), the rationality of the prescription could not be assessed due to lack of information. Most cases of irrational prescribing involved ICD prescribing for ICM and ICMP. According to the Spearman test, there was a significant relationship between the rationale for prescribing and underlying diseases, as well as the type of DDDR and CRT-D pacemaker. Based on Logistic Regression analysis, age, underlying disease, and history of cardiac infarction risk factors were the determinants of the rationale for prescribing. Conclusion: Based on this study, ICD and Pacemaker prescriptions in Shahid Madani Hospital in Tabriz were evaluated as acceptable according to AHA and ACC guidlines.en_US
