Evaluation of comorbid psychiatric disorders in Adult patients admitted to Imam Reza Hospital with primary brain tumors before and after surgery

dc.description.abstract | The aim of this study was to investigate frequency psychiatric symptoms in adult patients with primary brain tumor before and after surgery. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in adult patients over 18 years of age who have been diagnosed for less than six months and scored in the MMSE test score above 25. Based on DSM-IV criteria, a semi-structured interview with SCID-I was performed and one month after surgery was repeated again and the results were compared before and after.Results: A total of 120 eligible patients were evaluated in 26.66% of pre-surgery examinations with psychiatric symptoms, depressive disorder was 13.07% and then adjustment disorder 9.15% and anxiety disorder 5 / 88%. The frequency of post-surgical psychiatric disorders was reduced to 22.5%. However, there was no significant difference between pre and post-surgical outcomes. Also, in analyzes, no relationship was found between the location of tumor, pathology, and size of the tumor with the frequency and type of psychiatric disorder. | en_US |
