Evaluation of causes of complaints againts oral health care providers in Tabriz medical Council organization and its related factors between 2001 and 2018

Abstract
Introduction: Not much information is available about the reasons for complaints against dentists in Tabriz and how often it occurs. More knowledge and more comprehensive information in this area can be an effective aid in identifying and preventing complaints. Therefore, in this study, the complaints related to dentists in the Tabriz Medical Council Organization between 2001 and 2018 were examined. Methods: In this study, all complaint cases in the prosecutor's office, the primary board and the appellate board were examined. The study population includes all providers of dental services, including experimental dentists, general dentists, specialists and dental students, whose complaints were filed between 2001 and 2018 after being submitted to the Tabriz Medical Council Organization. Closed. Sampling was performed as a whole and data collection was documented and data were collected using a study checklist. Following data collection, data analysis was performed using SPSS 17 statistical software. Results: The results showed that the average age of the complainant patients was about 40 ± 12.54 years, the highest frequency of the complainants were in the age group of 30 to 45 years with 48 complainants. The highest number of complaints was related to dental root canal treatment with 29 cases (26.85%) and the lowest was related to restoration and cosmetic surgery with 3 cases (2.77%). In addition, the highest frequency of accidents occurred in the dental office with a frequency of 54 cases and the lowest in the hospital, clinic and health centers under the supervision of the University of Medical Sciences with a frequency of 11 cases were reported. Also, in our study, the final verdict was issued for the offending physicians in three ways, the highest number of which was related to the prohibition of prosecution with the number of verdicts of 60 cases. It was found that there was a significant relationship between the cause of complaint and the job status of dental service providers. However, there is no significant relationship between the cause of the complaint and the years of registration and the location of the accident. There was no significant relationship between gender and job status. There was a statistically significant relationship between the location of the accident with different job status, while there was no significant relationship between job status and different years of complaint registration. Conclusion: The results of our study showed that the number of complainants has increased in recent years compared to previous years. Based on the results of our study and other studies, the need to train dentists in choosing the right patient according to their knowledge and scientific skills and the amount of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in diagnosing the correct treatment plan and the right emotional communication skills with the patient. It is increasingly felt that an effective step has been taken to reduce the incidence of negligence and the extent of dissatisfaction and complaint against them.
