dc.description.abstractBackground and aims: Most of the industrial activities, especially the construction industry, are carried out by contractors. However, in the tenders for the projects, the contractor's performance indicators on safety, health and environment are not taken into consideration. About 45 percent of work-related accidents occur in the construction industry. Given the high number of occupational accidents and the lack of applied methods in evaluating the performance and ranking of contractors in the country, this study was designed to provide a tool for ranking contractors from the HSE perspective. Methods: The present study was designed and implemented in four stages. In the first stage, the HSE performance indicators of the contractors were collected using a literature review. In the second stage, HSE performance indicators were collected from HSE experts' point of view and using a simple questionnaire. At this stage, the indicators obtained from the experts' point of view combined with the indicators obtained from literature review and prepared in the form of a questionnaire. The third stage of the study was based on fuzzy delphi method. At this stage, the indicators collected in the previous steps were sent to HSE experts to rate the indicators from zero to twenty. In the last step, a checklist of contractors HSE performance indicators was prepared. Data analysis in this study was performed using SPSS25 and MATLAB 2017B software. Results: The average scores of all the indicators obtained from this study were high and acceptable, and all 36 indicators were used to design the checklist. In the designed checklist, the indicators were divided into two groups: reactive indicators and proactive indicators, and a question was designed for each indicator, the answer to each question is yes or no. The fuzzy coefficients obtained from the mean scores of the indicators were used to give weight to the indicators in the checklist. Conclusion: Given that all 36 HSE indices obtained in this study achieved high scores, A list of these indices can be provided to companies to use all or part of these indices to evaluate the performance of the contractors participating in the tenders.en_US
