Introduction: The genus Eryngium, with 274 species, is one of the largest genera of the Umbrella family and has shown numerous pharmacological effects including anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antimicrobial and antioxidant. Purpose: In the present study, Evaluation of antidiabetic activities of Hydroalcoholic Extract of Eryngium thyrsoideum on diabetic male mice. Materials and methods: Extraction was performed using ethanol 70% by maceration method. Mices (30±2g) were randomly allocated into eight groups (n=6): (1) Healthy control, (2) diabetic control, (3-6) diabetic mices which received 100 and 300 mg/kg of E. thyrsoideum extract Oral gavages and Injection IP for 18 days, (7) healthy control group of the extract which received 300 mg/kg of E. thyrsoideum extract Oral gavages for 18 days, (8) group received simultaneous STZ (IP) and high dose of extract (Oral) for 5 days. Type 2 diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal (IP) injection of a single dose of STZ (150 mg/kg). Finally, mices were anesthetized by IP injection of ketamine and xylazine. Blood samples were obtained by heart puncture. Serum samples were separated and kept in -70 ° C. Three days before surgery, the OGTT test was performed. Results: Oral administration and IP injection of the hydroalcoholic extract of E.thyrsoideum (100mg/kg and 300mg/kg) significantly increased serum insulin level, significantly decreased blood glucose, significantly reduced glucose tolerance and MDA. Conclusion: In conclusion, we showed that Oral administration and IP injection of the hydroalcoholic extract of E. thyrsoideum in T2DM animal model has antidiabetic effects. However, in future studies on this plant to investigate the mechanism of its activity and determine its safety profiles in order to explore possibilities of developing a new antidiabetic drug.en_US
