Groundwater is one of the important sources of water for lots of societies. In Iran more than 95% of rural communities and more than 58% of urban communities are dependened on groundwater for drinking. However, earth properties play a significant role in water quality, especially chemical aspects of the water. Therefore, the general quality of groundwater is strongly affected by the geology of the area. Among anthropogenic sources, there is pollution from human activities such as municipal, industrial and agricultural wastewater and different types of wastewater. In order to maintain consumers health in good condition, survey of quality and effective parameters from hydrogeochemical view point is of great importance. The aim of this study was to investigate and modeling the quality of groundwater resources. To get this objective, villages that their drinking water is abtained from groundwater and are under coverage of East Azerbaijan Rural Water and Wastewater Company, were selected for sampling. All physicochemical parameters along with heavy metals such as arsenic were analyzed, and then thematic maps were ploted with Arc GIS software, and interpreted. In addition, piper, stiff and schoeller diagrams were developed and interprited. In the next section, water quaity data in recent years were collected from related offices and water quality variation trends were assessed. Average values of Electrical Conductivity for Tabriz, Heris, Bostanabad, Hashtrood, Miyaneh, Sarab and Charoymaq are 691.6, 1596.1, 1062, 1074, 1182, 1111.7 µs/cm, respectively. According to the results of this study, drinking water quality of villages of Heris County is low compared to that of other Counties. One of the cases of concern in the present study was high levels of arsenic (as high as 70 µg/L) in some of the villages of Tabriz County, especially located in westen areas, some villages in Sarab and Hashtrood. It is strongly recommended to carry out comprehensive study about this case and find solution for them.en_US
