The aim of this study was to evaluate the rate of biofilm formation, virulence genes, serogroup, antimicrobial susceptibility and the frequency of acrAB efflux pumps in Escherichia coli isolated from urinary tract infections in Sina Hospital in Tabriz. Methods: In this study, 120 non-duplicate Escherichia coli isolates were collected from in/out patients with urinary tract infections who were referred to Sina Hospital in Tabriz from 2015-2016. The demographic and clinical data were reviewed. Biofilm formation ability under laboratory conditions and the antibiotic susceptibility patterns of isolates were determined. Also, serotype genes, virulence factors, the efflux pump and the genes involved in biofilm formation were identified by using PCR method.Result: Escherichia coli isolates were sensitive to imipenem and colistin but resistant to cefotaxim (75%) and ceftazidim (74.2%). Biofilm formation was positive in 85.8% of isolates and in 14.2% of isolates was negative. The most common gene involved in the formation of biofilms was rpoS with 86.7%. Of the total isolates 84.2% of them were typeabled by PCR method, among which the serotypes O25 (55.8%) and O15 (10.8%) were the highest and serotypes O7 (0.8%) and O16 (0.8%) had the lowest incidence. acrB efflux pump is more common than the acrA pump. Among the regulatory genes of efflux pump, marR was the most frequence. The highest prevalence of virulence genes was related to fimH and papE/F.en_US
