dc.description.abstract | The correlation between NT-proBNP and cTnI in heart diseases are well shown before and recently has been noted in congenital heart disease (CHD). Some studies have suggested the role of these two markers in the outcome of cardiac surgery in children. In this study we aimed to evaluate the correlation between NT-proBNP and cTnI with outcome of cardiac surgery in children with CHD. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 21 children (15 boy and 6 girl with age range of 10 days to 9 years) with CHD undergoing cardiac surgery during 2015 were included. Laboratory findings before and after surgery, findings during surgery, the need for inotropes and the rate of complications after surgery were recorded in all patients. Results: In 76.2% of cases, there was a need for inotropes. Postoperative complications occurred in 28.6% including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (4.8%), arrhythmia (14.3%), pneumothorax, tamponade and chylothorax each in 4.8%. Mean Nt-proBNP increased significantly from 2145.16 before surgery to 7214.95 after surgery (p=0.001), cTnI increased from 0.17 to 1.77 (p=0.001) and EF decreased from 55% to 51 (p=0.04). There was significant correlation between NT-proBNP after surgery with admission duration (r=0.687, p=0.001) | en_US |
