Abstract: Background and aim: Emergency department is now considered as a multidisciplinary ward. Considering the need for multiple personnel with different professions to collaborate in the process of patient care, the limited and contradictory studies on nurses' willingness and understanding of interprofessional collaboration (IPC) and its influencing factors in Iran, and the absence of a dedicated study in this area in the emergency ward, the purpose of this study was to determine the perception of emergency nurses about IPC in the emergency department and its correlation with attitude to teamwork. Materials and methods: The present descriptive-correlational study was conducted on 138 emergency nurses in teaching hospitals affiliated to Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in 2018. Data were collected using a three-part tool, including demographic profile, attitudes toward physician-nurse collaboration and attitudes toward teamwork. The data were analyzed by SPSS version 13 software using descriptive and inferential statistics including one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and multivariate regression. Results: The mean score of perception of IPC was 48.68±5.14 (range 15 to 60) and the mean attitude toward teamwork was 96.15±8.97 (range 23 to 115). In addition, the perception of IPC had a statistically significant positive correlation with attitude toward teamwork (r=0.594 and p-value <0.001). The results of multivariate regression test showed that the dependent variable of attitude toward teamwork had still a significant correlation with the perception of IPC (p=0.000, B=0.361) in spite of adjusting for confounding variables. Conclusion: Given the findings of this study, further attention needs to be paid to the factors contributing to the promotion of IPC. In addition, considering the significant correlation between the perception of IPC and the attitude toward teamwork, training strategies to strengthen attitude toward teamwork is recommended in the curriculum of nurses and nursing students.en_US
