Venous thromboembolism is the most important cause of death and disability following surgery in the world. A comprehensive scientific study, conducted by the World Thrombosis Day Strategic Committee, has found that more than ten million cases of venous thromboembolism occur in low-, middle- and high-income countries each year. Thousands of deaths occur each year from venous thromboembolism in Europe. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the incidence of deep vein thrombosis following anterior knee cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery in Imam Reza Hospital in Tabriz during a one-year period of 2018-2019. Materials and Methods: This is a cohort study. Samples were collected through census. All patients who had undergone anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery in Imam Reza hospital in Tabriz in May 2018 were included in this study if they had informed consent. Patients underwent color Doppler ultrasound at 2 to 3 weeks postoperatively and were evaluated for presence or absence of deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities. Results: The results of the study showed that the incidence of DVT in the surgical patients was 2%. The mean age was higher in patients with DVT, although it was not statistically significant. Also, tourniquet time significantly increased the incidence of DVT, so that the average tourniquet time in patients with DVT was significantly higher than other patients. In addition to the type and mechanism of the miniscule repair, the distance between the onset of injury and the time of surgery in patients with DVT was significantly different from those without DVT.en_US
