dc.description.abstractThe aim of this study was to investigate the cause and outcome of children with severe trauma with GCS below 9. Methods and Materials: In a retrospective cross-sectional study, the records of children referred to the Emergency Department of Imam Reza Hospital in the first three months of 1998 were reviewed. Age, sex, time and mechanism of trauma, anatomic location of the trauma, measures and outcomes were collected and analyzed using SPSS software. Results: The information in the clinical record of 73 children was collected and analyzed by census method. 58.9% of cases presented between 16 and 24 hours. Traffic accidents (52.3%) were the most common mechanism and head and neck area (39.7%) were the most common trauma site. Emergency clearance of 12 cases, hospitalization in a specialized section 29, admitted to the intensive care unit 14, left the hospital with personal satisfaction was recorded in 3 cases and 15 deaths. The highest rate of trauma was due to chest and abdominal trauma (14.8%).en_US
