The effect of letrozole with misoprostol on induced abortion in the second trimester
Abstract
Objective:
To assess the feasibility of adding letrozole to the standard regimen of mifepristone and misoprostol for termination of pregnancy in second-trimester.
Annually 2% of women who are in fertility age terminate their pregnancies in legal manner.12% of abortion are done after 1th trimester that 95 % of them are done surgically.
Misoprostol the E1 prostaglandin analoge using in prevention of stomach and deodenal ulcer, is used for abortion and termination of pregnancy.Letrozole is a third-generation aromatase inhibitor which is used to treat estrogen-dependent breast cancer.letrosole inhibit the convertion of testostrone to estrogen.
Material:
In this study 86 pregnant women were studied whom 43 cases were in misoprostol and placebo group and 43 of them were in letrozol and misoprostol group.
Results:
There was no difference between the two regimens in terms of the induction-to-abortion intervals and non of them need to curtage.
