dc.description.abstract | Abstract:
The Relationship between medication Belief, Social Support and Medication Adherence in Patients undergoing Coronary Angioplasty Referred to Tabriz University of Medical Sciences
Introduction: One of the main causes of death in our country is cardiovascular disease. These diseases have many therapeutic methods, one of them is coronary angioplasty. Side effects of this treatment include its recurrence due to non-adherence to the drug regimen. People's beliefs about medication and social support can be related to medication adherence. This study aimed to determine the relationship between medication belief, social support, and medication adherence in patients undergoing coronary angioplasty referred to the University Cardiology Clinic. Tabriz Medical Sciences
Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive-correlational study. Eligible patients' participants were selected from the referrals to the specialist cardiology clinic based on the inclusion criteria of the available sampling method. The instrument used in this study consisted of 4 parts. The first section was demographic characteristics and the second part was the MARS 5-item Medicare Compliance Questionnaire. The third part was the Berlin Social Support Questionnaire (BSSS) and the next part was the BMQ Questionnaire on Belief in Drug Therapy.
Results:. The mean adherence was 4.79, the mean of belief in medication therapy was 0.5 and the mean of social support was 0.8. The results of Pearson correlation test showed that there was a significant relationship between belief in drug therapy and adherence to medication (r=0.222). But there was no statistically significant relationship between social support and adherence to medication (r = -0.0201). Multiple linear regression model showed that the sum of social support variables and belief in drug therapy with regard to their moderated effect could not have a significant effect on adherence to medication regimen in patients undergoing coronary angioplasty (r = 0.05).
Discussion: Nurses and family members have been able to influence their beliefs by supporting patients. However, further studies are needed on the relationship between adherence to medication and social support and beliefs about drug therapy. | en_US |
