Introduction: Chemical disinfectants should have the minimum side effects on the base of the denture to reduce the accumulation of the plaque. This study examines the effect of D2 nanosil on the surface roughness of acrylic resins of hard denture base in laboratory conditions. Matherials & methods: 44 acrylic resin specimens with a diameter of 17 mm and height 6 mm, were constructed and divided into two groups of 22 control and 22 cases, randomly. Then, the primary surface roughness of the samples was evaluated in terms of Ra (average surface roughness) and Rz (mean depth of surface roughness), with the PS1 profilometer. In addition, control samples in urban water and samples of case group were placed in disinfectant solution of D2 nanosil (kimyafam, Iran) and then samples were placed into distilled water for 16 hours. This procedure was performed for 180 days. After 180 days, the surface roughness of the samples was re-measured. The data were analyzed using SPSS.17 software. Results: In the mouthwash group, there is no significant difference between the mean Ra (mean superficial roughness) before and after placement in the solution. (P-value> 0.05). Also, in the urban water group, there is a significant difference between Ra mean, before and after placement. There was a significant difference between the Rz mean (surface depth of roughness average), before and after exposure to the solution in the mouthwash group. In the urban water group, there is no significant difference between Rz mean, before and after placement in the solution.en_US
