dc.description.abstractMethylphenidate is categorized as a central nervous system stimulant which is abused by most of young people in the society. Furthermore, methylphenidate is one of important drug that is applied for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) illness in childhood. Therefore, methylphenidate determination is a great interest among researchers in clinical laboratoeries. Aim Carbon based silica nanocomposite was synthesized and applied as dispersive solid phase extraction (DSPE) adsorbent as novel sample preparation method for extraction of methylphenidate from urine medium. Material and method Modified Hummer method was applied for synthesis of nano graphene oxide. Sol-gel precourses were applied for synthesis of carbon silica nano composite. After full characterization by various techniques, the nano composite was applied as dispersive solid phase extraction adsorbent. Effective extraction parameters was were optimized by one- parameter-at-a-time method. Analysis of real samples were carried out by the proposed method. Results After full characterization of the synthesized nanocomposite by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, the summery of the optimized parameters are as follows: 400 µL of methanol, urine pH value of 9, 60 mg of nanoadsorbent, 4000 stirring rate, 20 min of extraction and 25 min of desorption time and 6 mL of urine volume were the optimized by one-parameter-at-a-time method as extraction parameters. The method was validated and calibration curve was plotted, the linear range of the method was regarded as 100-2000 ng/mL. Limit of detection for the new method was 30 ng/mL. Discussion The analysis of addicted subjects with the proposed method confirmed the capability of the method in different laboratoriesen_US
