Background: Considering the increase in divorce rate in Iran as one of the signs of couple burnout (CB). This study was designed to investigate the prevalence of CB in women using a socio-ecological approach (SEA). Methods: In 2017, multi-stage probability sample of 767 women in urban regions of Tabriz, East Azarbaijan, Iran, was recruited to complete Paine’s couple burnout questionnaire that included an SES-based items. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was conducted. Results: The prevalence of CB in our study was 66.5%. SEA suggested that intrapersonal level strongly affects CB (β = -0.83). Moreover, the interpersonal and organizational levels had also effects on CB, directly as well as indirectly. In addition, environmental level had direct effect, whereas social level had indirect effect on CB. The SEM-derived model fit the data moderately (χ2 =139.5, df =49, χ2/df = 2.83, CFI=0.74, TLI=0.60, RMSEA=0.06). Conclusions: The SEM indicated that. Future research should focus on designing intrapersonal cognition, communication skills and organization interventional programs with a multilevel approach aiming at mental health promotion and CB prevention among women.en_US
